About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide students with engaging hands-on lessons aligned with NESS education philosophy
- Develop innovative lesson plans for Pre-K-12, summer programs, and professional development
- Align curricula to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Ocean Literacy Principles
- Implement NESS Safety and Emergency Action Plans to maintain a culture of safety
- Maintain watersports equipment including sailboats, powerboats, kayaks, and surfboards
- Oversee NESS aquariums, including animal feeding schedules and maintenance
- Manage classroom and lab inventory, including scientific equipment and specimens
Requirements
- US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification or equivalent
- Strong background in dinghy and small keelboat sailing
- Powerboating License (NASBLA endorsed)
- ARC Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED certification
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Experience in inquiry-based learning and classroom management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- BA or BS in Marine Science, Biology, Oceanography, or Education
- Scholastic sailboat racing experience
- Instructor certifications in kayaking or surfing
- Ability to drive and teach from a powerboat
