Editorial Trainee

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular checks with police, fire, and paramedics to monitor breaking news
• Monitor social media and other digital sources for emerging stories
• Provide quick tips and real-time updates to the newsroom
• Perform original reporting for all of the Star’s digital platforms

Requirements

• Must be a current post-secondary student
• Must be eligible to work in Ontario
• Availability for various shifts, including weekends, weeknights, and overnights (24/7 coverage)
• Strong storytelling and news coverage skills
• Proficiency in CP style
• Ability to remain calm, organized, and multitask in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Base knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
• Proven ability to persuade officials for information and speak with victims of crime or accidents
• Demonstrated commitment to pursuing journalism as a career
