About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular checks with police, fire, and paramedics to monitor breaking news
- Monitor social media and other digital sources for emerging stories
- Provide quick tips and real-time updates to the newsroom
- Perform original reporting for all of the Star’s digital platforms
Requirements
- Must be a current post-secondary student
- Must be eligible to work in Ontario
- Availability for various shifts, including weekends, weeknights, and overnights (24/7 coverage)
- Strong storytelling and news coverage skills
- Proficiency in CP style
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Base knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
- Proven ability to persuade officials for information and speak with victims of crime or accidents
- Demonstrated commitment to pursuing journalism as a career
