About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide editorial acquisition, development, and publication support for books
- Manage peer review processes, including soliciting reviews and managing honoraria
- Handle author correspondence and serve as a liaison between authors and editors
- Prepare book descriptions, data sheets, and profit-and-loss statements
- Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for editing and production
- Maintain and update press-wide databases and master lists
- Secure permissions for previously published text and art
- Coordinate with marketing, production, and accounting departments
- Hire, train, and supervise interns each semester
- Apply for and manage publication and translation grants
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the publishing industry
- Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and FileMaker Pro
- Basic knowledge of editorial procedures and financials
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Experience in an office environment
