Editor (Books), Behavioral & Health Sciences Books, APAC

Responsibilities

• Identify authors and support them in developing projects, acting as a primary point of contact throughout the publishing process
• Solicit, read, and evaluate book proposals to assess market suitability and manage the external peer review process
• Meet editorial management goals, including contract signings, manuscript handovers, and publication targets
• Maintain key relationships with series editors, authors, and relevant academic or professional communities
• Manage and regularly review backlist performance, including decisions on new editions
• Conduct market and competitor research to stay aware of national and international trends
• Travel to domestic and international academic conferences as required
• Collaborate with editorial support teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule

Requirements

• Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrable experience in academic, scientific, or professional publishing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build professional networks
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to prioritize a high volume of work
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and strong team-working abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of, or experience in, behavioral or health sciences
• Experience in book commissioning
• Postgraduate qualification in psychology, public health, or a related social science or STEM field
• Strong presentation skills
