About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate Opinion's cross-platform strategy for AI coverage, identifying urgent moral, political, and economic questions.
- Commission and edit ambitious enterprise projects, deep-dive features, and essays regarding the AI revolution.
- Collaborate with graphics, multimedia, and audience teams to create innovative digital presentations for complex topics.
- Manage and edit a portfolio of columnists and contributing writers, providing guidance on narrative voice and argumentative rigor.
- Identify and recruit guest essayists and new recurring voices with specialized expertise in technology and ethics.
- Manage a team of writers to ensure all commentary meets the highest standards of intellectual honesty and literary excellence.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in senior editorial roles at a major national publication.
- Proven track record of editing complex, ideas-driven journalism and high-profile writers.
- Exceptional ability to synthesize technical information into compelling, accessible narratives.
- Deep interest in the intersection of technology and public policy.
- Experience managing large-scale editorial projects from conception through publication.
- Ability to work in a hybrid capacity, with regular attendance in the New York City office four days each week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience collaborating with data journalists and visual editors to build interactive or data-driven explainers.
- A track record of developing the next generation of editors and writers.
