ECG Technician/Lab Assistant

Responsibilities

• Manipulate, accession and process specimens as per laboratory protocols
• Manage specimen storage and disposal
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including stainers, coverslippers, and tissue processors
• Document specimen errors and report/correct them according to procedure
• Organize and arrange transport of specimens
• Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
• Participate in staff training and maintain a safe working environment

Requirements

• Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
• Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program
• Minimum one year of related work experience in a laboratory setting
• Minimum one year of recent work experience in anatomic pathology
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
• Proficiency in Windows-based applications
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) license
• CSMLS license
