About the role
Responsibilities
- Manipulate, accession, and process specimens according to laboratory protocols
- Manage specimen storage and disposal processes
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including stainers, coverslippers, tissue processors, and automation systems
- Document specimen errors or problems and report/correct them according to procedure
- Organize and arrange the transport of specimens
- Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
- Maintain a safe working environment and comply with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards
- Participate in the training of staff and provide patient-centered care
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12 or a recognized equivalent
- Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program
- Minimum of one year of related work experience in a laboratory setting
- Minimum of one year of recent work experience in anatomic pathology
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
- Proficiency in Windows-based applications
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions and as part of a diverse team
Preferred Qualifications
- OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) license
- CSMLS license
