ECG Technician/Lab Assistant

Responsibilities

• Manipulate, accession, and process specimens according to laboratory protocols
• Manage specimen storage and disposal processes
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including stainers, coverslippers, tissue processors, and automation systems
• Document specimen errors or problems and report/correct them according to procedure
• Organize and arrange the transport of specimens
• Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
• Maintain a safe working environment and comply with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards
• Participate in the training of staff and provide patient-centered care

Requirements

• Completion of Grade 12 or a recognized equivalent
• Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program
• Minimum of one year of related work experience in a laboratory setting
• Minimum of one year of recent work experience in anatomic pathology
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
• Proficiency in Windows-based applications
• Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
• Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions and as part of a diverse team

Preferred Qualifications

• OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) license
• CSMLS license
