About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operational needs for Earth Science laboratories and workshops
- Coordinate and manage all logistical details for field trips and field-based learning activities
- Provide instruction and demonstrations to students on laboratory techniques, experimental procedures, and safety protocols
- Liaise with course instructors to coordinate experiment set-up that complements theoretical material
- Prepare, assemble, and set up materials, equipment, and supplies used in teaching and research
- Maintain, inventory, and ensure the readiness of laboratory, field, and analytical equipment
- Manage and monitor program or project budgets
Requirements
- Master's Degree or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum of four years of experience in an Earth Science undergraduate and teaching laboratory environment
- Proven experience planning, coordinating, and overseeing field trips
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing laboratory and field equipment
- Experience managing program or project budgets
- Valid driver’s license and experience driving vehicles in field settings
- Proficiency in using GIS and other Earth Science software to set up laboratory exercises
- Ability to identify, catalog, curate, and maintain geological sample collections
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scouting and developing geological field guides and exercises
- First aid and basic safety technique certification
- Interest in acting as a liaison between geoscience industries and the department
