Early Childhood Assistant/Food Handler

Responsibilities

• Support the RECE and staff in facilitating play-based learning activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Supervise and engage children while maintaining a safe, clean, and hygienic classroom environment.
• Assist with daily routines including toileting, dressing, and mealtimes.
• Prepare, portion, and serve meals and snacks in compliance with dietary guidelines and food safety standards.
• Maintain proper food storage, handling, and sanitation practices to prevent contamination.
• Monitor kitchen and food preparation areas to ensure compliance with public health and CCEYA regulations.
• Identify and report physical hazards and maintain equipment and facilities.
• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with families and provide program resources.
• Complete daily logs and documentation for parents and staff.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• One year of related experience in childcare or a similar setting.
• Valid Food Handler Certification.
• Standard First Aid & Level C CPR.
• Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood education.
• Understanding of food safety, dietary requirements, and sanitation practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) certification.
• Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
