About the role
Responsibilities
- Act in loco parentis to support the safety, well-being, and residential welfare of boarding students
- Serve as the primary liaison between parents, faculty, and staff for an assigned group of 13-18 students
- Monitor student whereabouts, facilitate checkouts, and perform regular dormitory rounds
- Assist with academic progress by proctoring study halls and collaborating with faculty on student-centered action plans
- Address student conduct issues and rule violations fairly and consistently
- Plan and organize community-building activities and residential life curriculum programming
- Support student health needs in coordination with nursing staff and respond to residential emergencies
- Train and coach part-time Residential Assistants on school processes and operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, public administration, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience working with adolescents in a leadership or mentorship capacity
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work nights, weekends, select holidays, and on-call hours
- Emotional maturity and the ability to maintain composure during stressful situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in residential life at a boarding school, summer camp, or similar environment
- Experience working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students
- International experience living abroad
- Proficiency in a second language
- Knowledge of New York City
