Dorm Parent

Responsibilities

• Act in loco parentis to support the safety, well-being, and residential welfare of boarding students
• Serve as the primary liaison between parents, faculty, and staff for an assigned group of 13-18 students
• Monitor student whereabouts, facilitate checkouts, and perform regular dormitory rounds
• Assist with academic progress by proctoring study halls and collaborating with faculty on student-centered action plans
• Address student conduct issues and rule violations fairly and consistently
• Plan and organize community-building activities and residential life curriculum programming
• Support student health needs in coordination with nursing staff and respond to residential emergencies
• Train and coach part-time Residential Assistants on school processes and operations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, public administration, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience working with adolescents in a leadership or mentorship capacity
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work nights, weekends, select holidays, and on-call hours
• Emotional maturity and the ability to maintain composure during stressful situations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in residential life at a boarding school, summer camp, or similar environment
• Experience working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students
• International experience living abroad
• Proficiency in a second language
• Knowledge of New York City
