Donor Specialist

Responsibilities

• Educate military members, veterans, and their families about brain donation and the Brain Donation Awareness Registry
• Lead community partner engagement and stakeholder coordination for assigned commands
• Serve as the primary point of contact for families, healthcare workers, and funeral homes regarding the donation program
• Screen donors, register study participants, and coordinate with coroners and medical examiners to facilitate donation
• Perform tissue recovery duties including verifying donor identity and reviewing consent documentation
• Section, process, and prepare tissue specimens for shipping according to project protocols
• Ensure all research activities comply with federal regulations, DoD policies, and protected health information (PHI) safeguards

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in human subject research, tissue donation, clinical lab, nursing, or paramedic/medic roles
• OR Associate's degree plus 4 years of related experience
• OR 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating on-call basis
• Ability to work onsite, rotating between various partner locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in military environments and interacting with service members and their families
• Experience in the field of tissue or organ donation
• Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish
