About the role

Responsibilities

  • Educate military members, veterans, and their families regarding brain donation and the Brain Donation Awareness Registry
  • Lead community partner engagement and stakeholder coordination for assigned commands
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families, healthcare workers, and funeral home staff regarding the donation program
  • Coordinate with coroners, medical examiners, and tissue transport providers to facilitate specimen recovery
  • Perform tissue recovery duties including verifying donor identity, reviewing consent documentation, and assisting pathologists
  • Section and process tissue according to project protocols and prepare specimens for shipping
  • Ensure all research activities comply with federal regulations, DoD policies, and protected health information (PHI) safeguards
  • Maintain study supplies, enrollment logs, and required research documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in human subject research, tissue donation, clinical lab work, nursing, or paramedic/military medic roles
  • OR Associate's degree plus 4 years of related substantive experience
  • OR 10 years of related professional experience
  • Availability for rotating on-call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in military environments and interacting with service members and their families
  • Experience in the field of tissue or organ donation
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish
