District Forester

Responsibilities

• Manage company-owned and managed timberlands to support sustainable forest operations
• Prepare annual harvest, reforestation plans, and budgets
• Coordinate and monitor logging, site preparation, planting, and herbicide contractors
• Monitor harvesting operations for compliance with Louisiana Best Management Practices and water quality protections
• Conduct timber cruising, stand assessments, and inventory updates
• Maintain and update GIS maps, tract records, and harvest records
• Inspect tracts for regeneration success, forest health, insect/disease issues, and storm damage
• Assist with boundary line maintenance and road/access planning
• Support timber sale preparation, field layout, and post-harvest follow-up
• Administer hunting club matters and support landowner objectives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Forest Management, or a closely related field
• Working knowledge of forest management planning, reforestation, and timber harvest operations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and walk on irregular ground for long distances

Preferred Qualifications

• Two to five years of forestry or timberland management experience
• Experience with private timberland ownerships or forest products operations
• Knowledge of Louisiana Recommended Forestry Best Management Practices
• Experience using GIS, GPS, digital mapping tools, and spreadsheets
• Experience with drones and related field technology
• Society of American Foresters certification or logger/BMP training
