Distribution Line Specialist - Journeyman

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair transmission and distribution lines, poles, towers, and associated electrical equipment.
• Handle emergency patrolling, switching, and service restoration operations.
• Lead in the installation or removal of transformers, regulators, and protective devices.
• Perform maintenance on street lighting circuits and related equipment.
• Assist in training and instructing apprentice linemen.
• Operate heavy equipment including bucket trucks, air compressors, and hydraulic equipment.
• Execute planned or emergency operations using hot line tools and protective equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four years of experience as a Lineman Apprentice or equivalent (including one year as a 4th-year apprentice).
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within one year of hire.
• Must live within 30 road miles of the assigned Operations Center (Madison or Seymour, IN).
• Ability to pass an entrance examination, SAT, DOT physical, and background/drug screen.
• Physical ability to lift up to 76 lbs, push/pull up to 116 lbs, and carry up to 90 lbs.
• Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate from a Lineman’s Training School or Technical School Line program.
• Military experience.
• Previous experience in the electric utility industry.
• Experience responding to natural disasters or emergency storm situations.
• Training in climbing various structures such as wood or steel.
