Distribution Line Specialist - Journeyman

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair transmission and distribution poles, towers, conductors, and associated electrical equipment.
• Handle emergency patrolling, switching, and service restoration operations.
• Lead in the installation or removal of transformers, regulators, street lighting, and underground cables.
• Assist in training and instructing apprentice linemen.
• Perform maintenance tasks including renewing crossarms, replacing insulators, and repairing guy assemblies.
• Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, air compressors, and hydraulic equipment.
• Maintain work equipment and areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four years of Lineman Apprentice experience (or equivalent).
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass the required entrance examination (written and qualifying).
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within one year of hire.
• Must live within 30 road miles of the Lafayette Operations Center.
• Physical ability to lift up to 76 pounds and push/pull up to 116 pounds.
• Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate from a Lineman’s Training School or Technical School Line program.
• Military experience.
• Previous experience in the electric utility industry.
• Experience responding to natural disasters or emergency storm situations.
• Training or experience climbing various structures (wood, steel, etc.).
