About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of digital accessibility initiatives to ensure compliance with WCAG, ADA, and Section 508
  • Advocate for the rights of people with disabilities in city planning, policymaking, and digital communications
  • Coordinate with design, development, and QA teams to embed accessibility requirements throughout the product lifecycle
  • Conduct accessibility audits of websites, mobile applications, and software
  • Perform manual and automated accessibility testing using tools like Axe, Lighthouse, and WAVE
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on digital accessibility, providing guidance and training to stakeholders
  • Work with community stakeholders and advocacy groups to ensure community voices are reflected in city initiatives
  • Collect and analyze data related to disability access to inform policy decisions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two years of experience in disability accessibility, advocacy, web development, or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge of digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, ADA, Section 508)
  • Understanding of assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
  • Familiarity with web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Proficiency with accessibility testing tools
  • Strong communication and project coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience
  • Experience with mobile application accessibility (iOS and Android)
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and VPAT reviews
