Director/VP Head of Merchant Underwriting

ClarityPay is a fast-growing fintech empowering enterprise merchants with smarter, more adaptive pay-over-time solutions, including point-of-sale financing and "Buy Now, Pay Later" programs.

Responsibilities

• Own the underwriting framework for merchant acquiring risk and design policies to assess financial health.
• Devise risk mitigation solutions including covenants, holdback structures, and delayed settlement schedules.
• Lead due diligence processes to verify financial data and quantify operational risks.
• Utilize data analytics and financial modeling to forecast loss scenarios and determine credit limits.
• Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Legal, and Credit Risk leadership to structure deals.
• Implement ongoing portfolio monitoring mechanisms to identify deteriorating merchant trends.
• Build and mentor a high-performing underwriting team.

Requirements

• 7-10+ years of experience in Merchant Underwriting, Commercial Credit Risk, or Counterparty Risk Management.
• Experience within the Payments, Acquiring, or Lending space.
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and querying.
• Experience using Python for statistical risk modeling and financial analysis.
• Strong ability to analyze financial statements including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow.
• Proven experience in structured finance, including creating covenants and collateral requirements.
• Experience building teams or frameworks in high-growth environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leveraging Generative AI tools and prompt engineering to scale analysis of unstructured documents.
