About the role
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage a Deputy Director and 2-3 teams of approximately 12-20 Engineers and Technicians
- Ensure timely design completions for DOT and DEP projects
- Resolve construction issues requiring design changes to minimize cost and delay
- Develop standard construction language and maintain specifications for roadways, sewer, and water mains
- Represent the Design Unit at meetings with Utility companies, City, State, and Federal agencies
- Provide technical support for design drawings, specifications, and estimates
- Ensure project compliance with City standards and quality review processes
- Manage and train staff in Design and Construction Support functions
- Prioritize projects to meet agency goals and stay updated on design standards
Requirements
- Valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer
- Six years of full-time experience in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, or mechanical engineering, or plan examining
- At least two years of experience in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity
- Must meet specific Civil Service criteria (permanent in Administrative Engineer title or on specific promotional/open-competitive lists)
- Must be authorized to work full-time in the United States
