About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategic communications plan aligned with the college’s mission and values.
- Serve as the chief media spokesperson and manage relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Oversee the college newsroom to ensure the production of engaging content, including news releases, op-eds, and feature stories.
- Direct crisis communications planning and response, coordinating timely and accurate messaging during emergencies or high-priority incidents.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and key stakeholders to align communication efforts and foster institutional partnerships.
- Supervise staff and manage the creation and distribution of key institutional announcements and media statements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Seven years of experience in media relations, public relations, or journalism.
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, high-accountability environment.
- Commitment to justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or other professional certifications.
- Higher education experience.
- Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).
- Established network of contacts with local, regional, national, and international media outlets.
