About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategic communications plan aligned with the college’s mission and values.
  • Serve as the chief media spokesperson and manage relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Oversee the college newsroom to ensure the production of engaging content, including news releases, op-eds, and feature stories.
  • Direct crisis communications planning and response, coordinating timely and accurate messaging during emergencies or high-priority incidents.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and key stakeholders to align communication efforts and foster institutional partnerships.
  • Supervise staff and manage the creation and distribution of key institutional announcements and media statements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Seven years of experience in media relations, public relations, or journalism.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, high-accountability environment.
  • Commitment to justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or other professional certifications.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).
  • Established network of contacts with local, regional, national, and international media outlets.
