About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, and management of the Faculty of Medicine's academic space and facilities across British Columbia.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of professionals, including senior planners, project managers, and facility managers.
  • Represent the Faculty's interests in negotiations with Ministries, Health Authorities, and University leaders regarding capital projects and space issues.
  • Oversee short-term and long-term construction project planning, including requirements, funding requests, and budget management.
  • Develop and implement space allocation and management policies to ensure equitable and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Manage the development of functional programs for teaching and learning facilities, including lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and research spaces.
  • Resolve academic space disputes through negotiation and arbitration while maintaining key partner relationships.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership in a professional Institute or Association.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related management experience, including the management of professionals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Planning, Project Management, Facilities Management, Business, or Architecture.
  • Professional experience within the health or university sectors.
  • Expertise in financial planning, facilities administration, and capital project management.
  • Thorough knowledge of space programming, facility development, and institutional operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other drafting software is considered an advantage.
