About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, and management of the Faculty of Medicine's academic space and facilities across British Columbia.
- Lead a cross-functional team of professionals, including senior planners, project managers, and facility managers.
- Represent the Faculty's interests in negotiations with Ministries, Health Authorities, and University leaders regarding capital projects and space issues.
- Oversee short-term and long-term construction project planning, including requirements, funding requests, and budget management.
- Develop and implement space allocation and management policies to ensure equitable and efficient utilization of resources.
- Manage the development of functional programs for teaching and learning facilities, including lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and research spaces.
- Resolve academic space disputes through negotiation and arbitration while maintaining key partner relationships.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Eligibility for membership in a professional Institute or Association.
- Minimum of 10 years of related management experience, including the management of professionals.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Planning, Project Management, Facilities Management, Business, or Architecture.
- Professional experience within the health or university sectors.
- Expertise in financial planning, facilities administration, and capital project management.
- Thorough knowledge of space programming, facility development, and institutional operations.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or other drafting software is considered an advantage.
