Director, Software Engineering

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in aligning information systems development with business objectives for assigned applications and technologies.
• Oversee engineering managers, developers, and contract labor teams to ensure effective execution of project work plans.
• Drive the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and monitor production support service levels.
• Collaborate with domain architects on product and enterprise-level solution designs aligned to North Star objectives.
• Prepare business cases and financial analyses for potential new technologies and systems.
• Manage department budgets, including P&L forecasting, capital expenditures, and contract negotiations.
• Lead recruitment, training, and performance management to build and develop high-performing engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 10 years of experience in software development and architecture design.
• 5 or more years of management experience leading technical teams.
• Strong understanding of the commercial P&C insurance industry.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Expertise in API development, management, and lifecycle management, including security standards.
• Deep knowledge of Agile development methods and their application to business needs.

• Experience with application test automation products and best practices.
• Strong strategic decision-making and long-term planning abilities.
• Excellent communication and consultative skills for collaborating with senior management.
