Director, Safety Codes

Responsibilities

• Administer the Safety Codes Act and all relevant Regulations including Alberta Building Code, Canadian Electrical, Gas, and Plumbing Codes
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Safety Codes Officers
• Ensure building inspections comply with approved plans, Provincial Safety Codes, and Municipal by-laws
• Maintain accurate inspection and investigation records using electronic systems
• Issue orders or notices for regulatory violations and prepare evidence for legal proceedings
• Conduct plan reviews and process building permits
• Act as the escalation point for complex safety code issues and resident complaints

Requirements

• Post-Secondary degree in civil engineering technology, architectural technology, or equivalent
• Qualified and registered with Municipal Affairs and Housing (QuARTS) in required categories (Chief Building Official, House, Small Buildings, Plumbing)
• Five years of municipal experience as a Chief Building Official or equivalent
• Proven supervisory and managerial experience leading teams
• Strong ability to interpret and enforce governmental laws and regulations
