About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior leadership and operational expertise for public relations and communications to enhance the Faculty's global visibility.
  • Develop, implement, and execute comprehensive communications strategies to enhance the Faculty's image locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Lead and deliver a range of activities including media relations, social media, digital content, publications, and academic recruitment materials.
  • Provide senior counsel and budget oversight, including managing creative production and external vendors.
  • Prepare press releases and pitch reporters on important Faculty research and achievements.
  • Manage a staff of three professionals, assuming responsibility for human resources, labour relations, and financial management.
  • Participate in senior-level decision-making regarding institutional statements and issue management.

Requirements

  • University degree in public relations, communications, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public relations and communications.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • 5+ years of experience managing media relations strategies and high-quality publications.
  • 5+ years of experience managing budgets and negotiating contracts.
  • 5+ years of experience using web content management systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working within highly complex organizations.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within an academic environment.
  • Experience in health, recreation, or sport environments.
  • Familiarity with developments in AI related to public relations and communications.
  • Proven record of executing large, complex projects including artistic direction and production timelines.
