Director, Protein Sciences

Responsibilities

• Lead an entrepreneurial team of scientists to advance the internal and partnered portfolio through high-throughput expression, purification, and characterization.
• Establish and communicate best practices for biochemistry and cell biology techniques, including production and analytical characterization of therapeutic proteins.
• Partner with research informatics and laboratory automation teams to implement efficient workflows and parallelized therapeutic discovery.
• Manage outsourced protein production and characterization work with CROs to complement internal resourcing.
• Serve as a scientific authority on protein therapeutics, contributing to program strategy, molecule design, and candidate developability.
• Interface with downstream CMC functions and external CDMOs to ensure seamless progression of molecules into manufacturing.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing Protein Sciences unit.

Requirements

• PhD in protein biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cell biology, structural biology, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in biologics drug discovery and development, with a track record of advancing antibody-based therapeutics.
• Expert-level knowledge of antibody and protein expression, purification, and biophysical/analytical characterization.
• Deep understanding of developability assessment, candidate selection criteria, and the handoff into CMC/process development.
• Proven experience selecting and managing biologics CROs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience leading high-performing teams in an entrepreneurial biotech environment.
