Director, Project Team Lead, Early Research

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional matrixed teams to develop and execute program strategies, timelines, budgets, and risk evaluations
• Proactively identify critical path issues and implement action plans to accelerate research programs
• Oversee the preparation of program content for governance reviews, key decision gating, and external partnership diligence
• Collaborate with project managers to ensure alignment with downstream activities such as target validation and drug discovery
• Partner with Finance to manage program budgets, resource allocation, and financial risk communication
• Maintain comprehensive documentation, including program status reports, progress summaries, and regulatory submissions
• Ensure all key stakeholders remain informed and aligned on research priorities and decisions

Requirements

• PhD with 5-8+ years of experience, or BS/MS with 10+ years of experience in the biopharma industry
• 2-5 years of leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary project or program teams in drug discovery or early therapeutic research
• Proven experience integrating wet-lab research capabilities with computational/data science teams
• Demonstrated track record of guiding teams to achieve goals on aggressive timelines within a matrixed or biotech environment
• Strong business acumen regarding pre-clinical and clinical drug development strategy
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence without direct line management control

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in genomics-based drug target identification or platform-based drug discovery
• Success in advancing programs from early research through to clinical development
• Experience working with both small molecules and biologics
• Prior experience in rapidly growing, early-stage biotechnology companies
