Director, Procurement Strategic Contract Negotiator

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end contract negotiation strategy and execution for CRO, CMO, laboratory, and technology service agreements
• Partner with Finance and Legal to balance risk, compliance, and commercial objectives
• Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on pricing models and risk allocation
• Drive negotiations to optimize cost, flexibility, and performance
• Support development of procurement processes, templates, and playbooks
• Track contract lifecycle activities including renewals and amendments
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and risk mitigation
• Provide mentorship and strategic leadership for vendor governance

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 10-12+ years of experience in contract negotiation, strategic sourcing, or procurement
• Experience within biotech, pharma, or life sciences
• Demonstrated experience negotiating high-value agreements with CROs and CMOs
• Strong understanding of biotech contracting structures and market trends
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Ability to operate in a lean, fast-moving environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting clinical-stage programs (Phase I–III)
• Familiarity with Bay Area biotech vendor ecosystem
• Experience scaling procurement processes in growing organizations
