Director, Office of Student Ombuds

Responsibilities

• Serve as an impartial and confidential resource to students, providing informal resolution to concerns or disputes.
• Assist students in navigating university policies, procedures, and reporting processes.
• Provide a neutral and independent environment for consultation and listen to student concerns to discuss resolution options.
• Act as a liaison between individuals or groups and campus administration through facilitation and informal mediation.
• Collaborate with campus partners to promote an inclusive and equitable campus culture.
• Develop and maintain confidential notes and statistical data to identify systemic trends and recommend policy revisions.
• Generate aggregated, de-identified reports for the Provost to identify themes relevant to campus climate and process improvement.
• Provide training to the university community regarding Ombuds office responsibilities and programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least five years of administrative experience in student services.
• Extensive knowledge of student conduct policies, university policies, and FERPA rules.
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make effective decisions.
• Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and private subject matter with discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least three years of experience working in student services at the Assistant or Associate level.
