Director of Speech & Debate Team, Assistant Professor of Practice

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Director of the UIndy Speech & Debate Team, managing a nationally and internationally ranked competitive community
• Maintain a 3/3 teaching load within the Department of Communication, covering topics such as Argumentation, Public Speaking, and Media Writing
• Manage the team budget, scholarship allocations, and all financial paperwork for competitive travel
• Coach individual students and supervise part-time assistant coaches
• Transport the team to competitions (approximately once a month) using a university van
• Lead team marketing efforts and conduct outreach to K-12 schools
• Host an annual tournament at the university and coordinate university-wide showcases

Requirements

• Master's degree in communication or a related field (terminal degrees preferred)
• 1–2 years of experience coaching speech and debate
• Proven record of successful university-level teaching experience
• Active driver's license in good standing
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by competition schedules

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in sports communication, media, public relations, or journalism
• Ability to teach specialized courses in PR ethics, digital storytelling, or media writing
