Director of Safety and Security

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for campus safety, risk management, and emergency response.
• Supervise six full-time staff members to ensure effective 24/7 campus security services.
• Serve as the Emergency Coordinator for disaster events and coordinate the Emergency Command Center.
• Participate in key campus committees including the Threat Assessment Team and Title IX Team.
• Manage the campus parking program, including permit administration and policy enforcement.
• Ensure compliance with federal mandates such as the Clery Act and the Drug Free School Act.
• Collaborate with local law enforcement, including the Decorah Police Department and Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.
• Conduct investigations into criminal acts or code of conduct violations.
• Develop and deliver safety training for faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, student development, or a related field.
• Four years of management experience in higher education law enforcement or public safety.
• Certification in CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to remain calm, tactful, and empathetic in emotionally charged situations.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing stairs, and moderate lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field.
• Relevant professional certification in higher education safety and security.
• EMR or EMT certification.
