About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the Publishing House and ensure fidelity to House and Program Style Guides
  • Design, oversee, and manage an annual book publishing pipeline to achieve front list release goals
  • Implement author acquisition and content contributor programs
  • Conduct market research to identify new retail product opportunities
  • Oversee peer review of manuscripts and assist authors with development
  • Manage annual department and project budgets for publications
  • Monitor sales and perform audits to determine title success and reprint needs
  • Direct editorial, design, and production staff to ensure high-quality, on-time, and on-budget delivery
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales on front and backlist title strategies
  • Support internal and external communication materials and social media presence

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible work in publishing leadership
  • 2+ years in an editorial supervisory position
  • Exceptional project management expertise in deadline-driven environments
  • Deep expertise in budgeting, printing, editorial, and production management
  • Strong editing and writing skills (proofreading, copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media, and Google productivity software
  • Experience with vendors and contractors for creative services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and InCopy
  • Experience with Monday, Salesforce, or HubSpot
