About the role

About the Company

Ownwell helps property owners reduce the costs of owning real estate. Our proprietary software automatically identifies property owners that are overpaying on real estate expenses, managing the end-to-end process of reducing bills through tax appeals, exemptions, and corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a 2–3 year legislative and regulatory roadmap to expand market access
  • Prioritize high-leverage levers including statutes, rules, and appraisal district procedures
  • Draft, sponsor, and shepherd priority bills and manage vote paths
  • Drive rulemakings, administrative petitions, and negotiate guidance/MOUs
  • Convene homeowner, taxpayer, and consumer advocacy groups to build coalitions
  • Manage external partners including state lobbyists and policy consultancies
  • Establish compliant multi-state lobbying operations and reporting
  • Build a policy operating system including bill trackers and dashboards
  • Partner with Legal and Executive teams to manage risk and scenario planning

Requirements

  • 8–15+ years in state-level public policy or government relations
  • Proven track record of tangible wins across multiple states
  • Mastery of legislative and administrative processes
  • Experience building coalitions combining grassroots stories with policy analysis
  • Ability to operate in lean, high-velocity, startup environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in tax policy, consumer protection, or state/local administrative law
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Prior oversight of PAC or issue advocacy programs
