Director of Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of mechanical engineering across the full development cycle, managing mechanical, soft goods, and prototype & test engineers.
• Provide technical leadership on cross-functional trade-offs and architectural decisions involving thermals, fluids, mechanisms, and sensing.
• Shape and execute the hardware product roadmap in collaboration with the Chief Product Officer and executive team.
• Partner with electrical engineering, software, operations, and marketing to ensure successful product launches.
• Hire, coach, and grow a world-class engineering team while fostering a culture of excellence.
• Implement efficient systems and processes, including design reviews and phase gates.
• Travel to Asia to ensure suppliers and teams are delivering successfully against goals.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience developing complex electromechanical systems (e.g., consumer electronics, automotive, or medical devices).
• 2+ years of direct experience managing mechanical and product design engineers.
• Proven track record of launching products successfully under aggressive timelines with lean teams.
• Deep expertise in injection molding, electronics/sensor integration, and mechanism design.
• Strong proficiency in DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
• BSME degree or equivalent.
• Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with thermal engineering, fluid systems, actuators, and soft goods.
• Experience scaling products to high-volume production in Asia.
