Director of Hardware Quality

Responsibilities

• Drive vendor qualification and conduct rigorous audits of external suppliers
• Establish incoming quality standards and inspection protocols for PCBs, wiring harnesses, and solar components
• Partner with Engineering to translate technical specifications into supplier quality requirements
• Elevate ISO 9001 systems using advanced quality frameworks
• Manage and mentor a team of quality and reliability engineers and inspectors
• Partner with cross-functional teams to embed supplier reliability testing and First Article Inspections during NPI
• Oversee incoming material inspections and define assembly floor testing protocols
• Analyze warranty data to trace field failures to root causes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
• 8+ years in hardware quality engineering
• 3+ years managing multi-disciplinary quality teams
• Experience in highly regulated sectors like aerospace, medical devices, or automotive
• Proven track record of scaling quality principles in mid-sized companies
• Comprehensive experience in global supply chain management and supplier audits
• Mastery of ISO 9001 compliance
• Working knowledge of hardware/firmware/software interaction
• Proficiency in Root Cause Analysis (8D), FMEA, Lean Six Sigma, and SPC
• Ability to travel up to 15% for supplier visits

Preferred Qualifications

• Six Sigma Black Belt
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)
• Experience with solar power, battery storage, or cellular/satellite telemetry hardware
