About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the strategy and execution of successful press engagement across domestic and global media markets.
  • Manage a team of media relations professionals to handle incoming and proactive opportunities across the university's global campus system.
  • Develop and manage complex stories from initial idea to high-profile earned placements in top-tier publications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members of the press and university leaders.
  • Lead crisis communications efforts and maintain a calm, focused approach during high-pressure situations.
  • Leverage AI-powered media monitoring, data analytics, and automated insight tools to identify trends and sharpen earned media strategy.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across the External Affairs team and various university divisions.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of media relations experience, specifically working with top-tier publications both in the US and internationally.
  • Proven experience in people management within a fast-paced, goal-oriented organization.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing complex stories and securing high-profile earned media placements.
  • Experience in crisis communications and managing brand reputation.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered media monitoring, analytics, and content tools.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in-person at the Boston campus, including routine after-hours, weekend, and holiday work.
