Director of Fire Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of proportionate fire strategies for new build and refurbishment projects
• Act as an interface between clients, design teams, contractors, and approving authorities
• Produce and review fire strategies, compartmentation layouts, and evacuation analyses
• Undertake and interpret modelling and calculations including CFD and evacuation modelling
• Lead fire risk appraisal of external walls (FRAEW) and retrospective strategy development
• Diagnose external wall system risks and define remediation strategies
• Build and sustain client relationships and contribute to business development bids
• Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing fire consultancy team

Requirements

• Degree in a fire-related subject with substantial consultancy experience
• Strong knowledge of UK codes and standards (ADB, BS 9999, BS 9991, BS/EN)
• Proficiency in developing fire strategies and smoke control principles
• Experience with analysis and modelling tools (evacuation modelling, CFD workflows)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Chartered Consultant (CEng) with IFE or relevant professional accreditation
• Experience in façade/fire remediation and compartmentation surveys
• Working knowledge of PAS 9980 and external wall appraisal frameworks
• Knowledge of BIM/CDE workflows and digital QA tools
• Experience in business development and fee scoping
