Director of External Relations and Events

Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of a comprehensive external relations and events strategy to support institutional visibility and revenue generation.
• Oversee the planning and implementation of major institutional events, such as the Annual Tree Lighting and the Peace Pacer 5K.
• Manage event logistics for external partners, including venue coordination, vendor relationships, timelines, and budgets.
• Identify and develop opportunities to expand the University’s external events, including conferences and corporate programs.
• Serve as a University ambassador at community and professional events to build relationships with local businesses and organizations.
• Negotiate contracts and service agreements with external clients and vendors.
• Manage the mascot program and leverage the student mascot team for community engagement.
• Provide leadership and direction to event staff, student workers, and volunteers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in high-quality event planning (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Proven proficiency in written and verbal communication.
• Demonstrated success in external event planning and efficient budget management.
• Excellent customer service and relationship-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in event planning specifically within a higher education setting.
