Director of Engineering

Responsibilities

• Own engineering execution across product areas in partnership with Product, Design, and the CTO
• Build, mentor, and scale engineering teams including hiring and performance management
• Drive architectural decisions for highly available, secure, HIPAA-compliant AWS cloud services
• Establish and evolve engineering processes such as agile practices and code review standards
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices and agentic coding workflows
• Partner cross-functionally with Security, Compliance, and Customer Success
• Communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs to executive leadership and the board
• Manage vendor and infrastructure decisions

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proven track record of leading engineering teams of 5-25+ engineers
• Deep understanding of AWS and cloud-native architecture
• Experience with microservices, event-driven systems, and API design
• Hands-on experience integrating AI coding tools or LLM-based tooling into engineering practice
• Strong leadership and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SaaS, ideally within healthcare or regulated industries
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards like FHIR or HL7
• Experience with HIPAA compliance and healthcare data security
• Background scaling engineering organizations at high-growth startups
