Director of Engineering, Safety

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow two engineering teams covering safety backend, including decision platforms, classification systems, and intake pipelines
• Drive the automation roadmap in partnership with Safety ML, balancing AI automation with human review
• Own queue routing and internal tooling for operations teams and vendor partners
• Consolidate fragmented systems onto infrastructure and maintain high engineering standards for on-call and incident response
• Hire, coach, and grow senior engineering leaders

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with a backend and distributed systems background
• 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, including 2+ years managing managers
• Experience managing organizations of 20+ engineers through multiple EMs
• Strong architectural knowledge of event-driven systems and platform design
• Proficiency in AI/ML systems to partner effectively with ML organizations
• Experience working with operations or human-in-the-loop teams
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with legal, policy, and product teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Trust & Safety, fraud, integrity, or abuse engineering
• Background in building ML platforms, MLOps, or automated decisioning at scale
• Experience managing vendor-based operations or BPO
• Experience with payments, fraud, or commerce infrastructure
• Passion for gaming and the Discord community
