Director of Engineering, Lakehouse Platform

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Lakehouse Platform and Infrastructure foundations, including storage layers, catalogs, and Spark query engines.
• Drive technical and operational strategy for the Lakehouse Data Products Platform to support biopharma AI.
• Lead, manage, and grow a team of 8+ engineers spanning Data Platforms and Infrastructure engineering.
• Act as a player-coach by writing code, building internal tools, and leading architecture and code reviews.
• Manage technical prioritization, sprint execution, and quarterly delivery commitments.
• Champion AI-assisted development practices and identify opportunities to apply AI to data quality and platform observability.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years focused on data engineering or distributed systems at production scale.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams of 6+ people with accountability for strategy and people development.
• Deep expertise in Lakehouse technologies such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, or Apache Iceberg.
• Strong command of cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Experience building, shipping, and operating Tier 1 production data platforms.
• Ability to communicate complex architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated industries such as life sciences, healthcare, or financial services.
• Familiarity with scientific data pipelines or instrument data processing.
• Experience with real-time streaming technologies like Kafka or Apache Flink.
• Exposure to AI/ML workflows, including feature stores or vector search infrastructure.
• A prior career arc as a Staff or Principal level Individual Contributor.
