Director of Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering professionals to foster a culture of innovation and accountability.
• Oversee the performance, maintenance, and reliability of all broadcast, production, transmission, and digital infrastructure.
• Partner with production leadership to support station objectives and long-term technical initiatives.
• Serve as a key technical leader and escalation point for critical operational and maintenance issues.
• Lead engineering projects from concept through implementation, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations to support operational efficiency and future growth.
• Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide leadership during emergency situations.

Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in broadcast engineering, broadcast technology, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing projects, teams, or technical operations.
• Strong understanding of broadcast systems, transmission technologies, and production workflows.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Broadcasting, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) or networking/cybersecurity certifications.
• Experience managing engineering budgets and capital projects.
• Experience working in a union environment.
• Expertise in IP-based video/audio workflows, SMPTE 2110, or HDR production.
