Director of Data, AI and Privacy Policy

Responsibilities

• Lead CIPL's policy priorities in the US regarding AI, privacy, and data law through research and strategic advocacy
• Draft and oversee high-level research deliverables, including white papers, reports, and op-eds
• Develop and implement project plans to advance global policy agendas on topics such as cross-border data flows, digital sovereignty, and AI governance
• Engage with US federal and state lawmakers, staff, and legislative committees to advance policy positions
• Deepen relationships with current CIPL members and assist in recruiting new members and project participants
• Represent CIPL at industry events and develop content for speaking engagements
• Manage and grow CIPL team members and skillsets across different geographies

Requirements

• Advanced degree (J.D., Ph.D., or Master’s) in law, public policy, or a related field
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience in industry, law firms, think tanks, or government roles
• Deep knowledge of global data protection, AI, and privacy laws and regulatory frameworks
• Strong understanding of U.S. federal and state legislative and regulatory processes
• Exceptional writing, analytical, and public speaking skills
• Solid understanding of technology trends, data-driven innovation, and foundational computer science concepts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with competition law, intellectual property law, or regulatory compliance
• Proficiency in additional languages
