About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and administrative management for the Counseling Department
  • Ensure the delivery of ethical, evidence-based, and culturally competent counseling and crisis intervention services
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures consistent with professional standards (APA, ACA, NASW)
  • Supervise departmental staff, contract clinicians, and graduate-level interns
  • Oversee compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA
  • Collaborate with campus departments such as Student Conduct, Residence Life, and Athletics to support student wellbeing
  • Partner with faculty and staff to identify students of concern and promote early intervention
  • Offer professional development opportunities regarding mental health and crisis response

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, or a Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health discipline
  • Current South Carolina license to practice as a Psychologist, LPC, LISW, LCSW, or LMHCC
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience in a higher education setting
  • Minimum of two years of supervision experience
  • Ability to supervise graduate-level students seeking LPC or LMSW licensure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems (e.g., Banner/Ellucian)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with high-impact practices in higher education settings
  • Experience with Titanium or other counseling-related data management systems
  • Knowledge of college student development theory and integrated wellness models
