Director of Construction

Responsibilities

• Own the execution and progression of complex residential construction projects from pre-construction through completion
• Unblock stalled or delayed projects by resolving permitting issues, contractor challenges, or planning constraints
• Review construction plans, scopes of work, and specifications to ensure feasibility and alignment
• Navigate permitting processes across jurisdictions to ensure efficient approvals and inspections
• Coordinate with contractors, engineers, architects, and internal teams to remove bottlenecks
• Evaluate project risks related to scope, budget, and timeline and implement corrective actions
• Drive accountability across General Contractors and internal teams
• Establish standards for construction execution, documentation, and project readiness
• Identify systemic issues and implement process improvements to increase execution speed

Requirements

• 7–12+ years of experience in residential construction, general contracting, or construction management
• Strong experience with permitting, plans, and construction execution
• Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and construction documents
• Experience managing large-scale renovation or construction projects ($500K+)
• Proven ability to resolve construction issues and field challenges
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, materials, and contractor coordination
• California construction experience strongly preferred
• Contractor’s license preferred
