Director of Budget & Financial Planning

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, coordination, and administration of the University’s annual operating budget and multi-year capital budget.
• Establish and maintain institutional budget policies, timelines, and procedures.
• Lead institutional financial forecasting, variance analysis, and the development of revenue models.
• Prepare executive-level financial reporting and analysis for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
• Supervise Budget Analyst staff, providing performance management, coaching, and professional development.
• Optimize budget systems, data structures, and reporting tools in partnership with IT and the Controller’s Office.
• Partner with senior leadership and academic units to align financial resources with institutional strategic priorities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (equivalent professional experience may be considered).
• 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, financial planning, or financial analysis.
• 5+ years of supervisory experience.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in business or a related field.
• CPA (active or inactive) designation.
• Experience in higher education finance or within a complex, decentralized organization.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Ellucian Banner) and financial planning tools.
• Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
• Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel for complex data analysis.
