About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the university’s Athletic Communications operation by developing strategies to elevate the visibility and storytelling of over 20 varsity programs.
- Oversee media relations, digital and social media strategy, live coverage, branding, and historical records.
- Manage the creation and distribution of external communications, including game recaps, feature stories, press releases, and multimedia content.
- Serve as the primary media contact for assigned sports, cultivating relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Oversee digital content strategy, including website management, social media platforms, and live streaming coordination.
- Supervise and mentor athletic communications staff, interns, and student workers.
- Manage statistical reporting, record-keeping, and historical archives to ensure accurate reporting to the NCAA and conference office.
- Coordinate game day operations for home contests and lead efforts in awards and nominations for student-athletes and coaches.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, sports management, journalism, or a related field.
- Prior experience in athletic communications, sports information, or media relations, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Experience managing digital platforms, including websites and social media.
- Strong organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience with statistical software and content management systems (CMS).
- Proficiency with live streaming platforms and graphic design tools.
