Director of Advising

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Academic and Career advising team for sophomore, junior, and senior students.
• Implement, oversee, and assess advising and support programs to increase 4-year and 6-year graduation rates.
• Conceptualize and develop proactive programming to enhance the effectiveness of academic and career advising.
• Serve as a liaison between the advising office, students, parents, faculty, and university administration.
• Act as a mediator to resolve complex academic, behavioral, or other concerns involving students and faculty.
• Provide assistance to students in crisis by collaborating with Student Assistance and other campus resources.
• Directly supervise two Assistant Directors of Advising and manage the professional development of the upper-level advising team.
• Evaluate and assess the success of academic and career programming annually to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Master's degree required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Academic and Career advising.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
• Proven ability to multi-task and solve problems resourcefully.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral work preferred.
• Working familiarity with Syracuse University policies and processes.
