Director of Accounting

Responsibilities

• Manage the college’s accounting operations, including accounts payable, fixed assets, and travel & expense management.
• Lead and mentor the accounting staff to promote a high-performance and supportive environment.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including IRS Form 990, NCAA financial reports, and IPEDS submissions.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FASB and perform analytic reviews.
• Coordinate external audits and implement process improvements based on audit recommendations.
• Utilize Banner ERP and SQL to analyze financial data, automate manual tasks, and support data-driven decision-making.
• Assist in the annual budgeting process by providing insights related to expenditures and fixed assets.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional accounting experience.
• 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB standards.
• Proficiency in Banner ERP or similar accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and SQL proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or MBA certification (or currently working towards a CPA).
• Previous experience in the higher education or nonprofit sectors.
• Experience with NCAA financial reporting and IPEDS submissions.
