Director of Accounting

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and analyses for the College
• Prepare and record financial activities in the general ledger and related journals
• Collaborate with the CFO on annual budget builds and long-term planning
• Propose and monitor accounting procedures and internal control systems
• Manage all cash activity, AP activity, and month-end bank reconciliations
• Manage the annual financial audit and serve as the primary liaison for auditors
• Supervise the Assistant Director of Accounting
• Administer the Banner Finance General Ledger module, including chart of accounts maintenance
• Prepare financial reports for the Board of Trustees, SUNY, and IPEDS

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting and GASB standards
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with integrated computerized accounting systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree (MBA or MS in Accounting)
• Experience in college-level financial operations within SUNY or public higher education
• Experience with Ellucian/Banner software
