About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead and build a team of 40+ engineers, scientists, and technicians across multiple locations and shifts
- Set strategic priorities for the Materials and Processing (M&P) department to support fusion power deployment
- Manage multi-million dollar operational budgets for design, manufacturing, and R&D activities
- Mentor and develop leaders across Engineering, Test and Characterization, and Fusion Materials Program verticals
- Communicate technical outcomes, department KPIs, and overall strategy to executive leadership
- Interface with cross-functional stakeholders in core engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing to resolve technical challenges
- Influence long-term procurement strategy by translating product requirements into material inputs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in materials, welding, nuclear, or chemical engineering (or similar)
- 12+ years of experience in materials and process engineering
- 10+ years of experience in leadership roles managing multi-disciplinary technical teams
- Experience building, justifying, and managing budgets for projects and work centers
- Proficiency with project management tools, such as JIRA
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced engineering environment and maintain a strong safety culture

- Proven ability to drive under-defined problems to completion
- Experience operating within a flexible, service-oriented matrix engineering team
