Director, Legal Services

Responsibilities

• Lead the MDHS Legal Services team, providing high-level, proactive legal advice to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
• Partner with Faculty and School executives, Chancellery Research, and the Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) team.
• Support research, commercialisation, and complex collaborations through strategic legal guidance.
• Manage and direct the resolution of complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and obligations.
• Build and maintain trusted adviser relationships with key University stakeholders to embed sound governance and risk practices.
• Provide visionary leadership, coaching, and performance management to a team of direct reports.

Requirements

• Law qualification (postgraduate qualification preferred) and a valid Legal Practising Certificate.
• Minimum of 10 years of post-admission experience.
• Proven success in a senior leadership role, with the ability to influence at an executive level.
• Extensive expertise in commercial law, including intellectual property, corporate law, and research collaborations.
• Experience managing multiple, contemporaneous complex legal matters.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing, collaborative teams.
